OUR STORY

From one farm in Nagpur to homes across India — here’s how AsmitA Organic Farms came to life.

1995 – Where It All Began

Our founder and farmer, Muzaffar Hussain, began cultivating the land in Nagpur, driven by a deep love for farming and sustainable living. What started as a personal journey rooted in nature would soon grow into something much bigger.

1996 – India’s First Supermarket Concept

We opened our very first supermarket in Mira Road, pioneering the supermarket model in India. It wasn’t just about convenience — we stocked it with organic produce from our farm alongside everyday essentials every Indian household needed. Over the years, this grew into a chain of six thriving stores.

2019 – A Farmer’s Legacy Recognised

Muzaffar Hussain received the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Vidarbha Level Krushi Ratna Puraskar for his exceptional work in farming. He had created a thriving spice garden with over 20 varieties of spices, proving how one piece of land could nourish diverse crops and uplift farmer livelihoods through regenerative agriculture.

2022 – A Bold New Beginning

We made a pivotal decision: to go 100% organic. We closed all six supermarkets to focus entirely on building AsmitA Organic Farms as a digital-first brand. What stayed the same? Our love for farming. What changed? Our mission scaled — to reach homes across India with clean, honest food.

2023 – Starting Fresh, Staying Grounded

We launched 58 new products focused on everyday household staples like spices, rice, dals, flours, and more — the real essentials that nourish Indian kitchens. We took part in flea markets across Mumbai, not just to sell but to connect with our customers face to face. We listened, we learned, and we shaped our brand based on what real people had to say.

2024: A Year of Growth and Grit

We became GMP certified, expanded into 350+ stores across India, and introduced a wider range of clean, functional foods. This year saw the launch of our traditional Biji Di Panjiri, four Brown Rice Crisps certified 100% whole grain by the Oldways Council, and nut butters that go beyond your average spread. We also added MCT Oil and Assorted Energy Bites to support everyday wellness. Even fresh mangoes made the cut—grown on our farm, full of flavour, yet rejected by supermarkets for having natural spots. That moment deepened our commitment to real, honest food.

We are always exploring new ways to make our offerings more accessible to you. Why AsmitA

The name AsmitA comes from Sanskrit, meaning pride in one’s identity and a deep connection to self. For us, it captures everything we believe in—honouring our roots, staying true to who we are, and creating food with honesty and intention.

We chose AsmitA to represent more than just our brand. It’s a reflection of our values: clean ingredients, conscious choices, and a commitment to preserving the wisdom of traditional farming.

And just like the name, our logo tells a story too.

The face in the leaf represents the Indian farmer—a symbol of strength, nurturing, and resilience. The layered fields echo our family’s farming heritage, while the greens reflect life, freshness, and organic growth. Together, it forms a mark that is both grounded and forward-looking—a visual identity rooted in respect for nature and pride in where we come from.

Our bright, colourful packaging is designed to reflect that same spirit—crafted to stand out not just on the shelf, but in spirit. It’s vibrant, joyful, and rooted in purpose—just like the food inside.

So the next time you pick one of our products off a shelf—or open it at your doorstep—know that it’s more than a label. It’s a story of pride, purpose, and people.
